Worship in the Sanctuary
We had all hoped that the pandemic would be gone by now - but ongoing variations in the disease, combined with lower-than-anticipated vaccination rates in the U.S. and abroad has meant that new strains of the disease are still a factor in our assembly. For this reason the Church Council has endorsed the following guidelines from the Worship and Music Committee. These policies are informed by the CDC, as well as the recommendations of the Synod:

For this reason the Church Council has endorsed the following guidelines from the Worship and Music Committee. These policies are informed by the CDC, as well as the recommendations of the Synod:
- We will make use of alternating pews to maintain physical distance between groups during worship.
- The use of masks is encouraged in our Church for worship. Masks should be worn while singing - with the exception of soloists and duets. Masks will be provided by the Church to those who need them.
- Balcony seating is only for parishioners who will wear their masks during the whole service as an intentional space for members who feel most safe when masked.
- Worship leaders - including singers, greeters, lectors, ushers, communion assistants, the pastor, the organist, and the choir director must all be vaccinated OR wear proper masks when actively involved in the service.
- The service will be shortened to 45 minutes while in the sanctuary.
- We will be returning to our traditional order of the service (including the passing of the peace in the middle of the service, a return to the Offering, as well as to Bread and Wine for Holy Communion - in the "Continuous Communion" style).
- We will continue to take attendance for the sake of contact tracing. We encourage all members to contact the Church Office if they contract Covid-19.
Welcome to St. John's
In spite of the thousands and thousands of news, social, and adorable animal-based websites on the internet, you're here.
My guess is that it's not an accident. Either through our Facebook or through Google or through some other source, you were looking for more information on this congregation. And I hope that means you're looking for a place to be in touch with the sacred, to be found by the sacred, to be forgiven and to be reconciled and to serve and to be served.
And that's a hard search. It takes time. It can challenge the things we thought we knew. God's Word creates more mysteries to explore than hard facts to argue over. And it's here, it's holy. it's as real as you or me for those who are listening for God's still, and silent voice (1 Kings 19:12).
And that mystery is why we're here. We're a congregation of people devoted to these ministries and mysteries of Christ, given to us by God. We feed the hungry, we console the despairing, welcome the stranger, and find hope in the Word, because that's where God is found. We're a congregation centered around the divine promise of Jesus Christ.
Some of us are struggling with God. Some of us are resting in God. Some of us are finding inspiration in God and doing great stuff. All of us, myself included are learning, as we encounter God in Word and Sacrament.
If that's what you're looking for, you know where to find us.
See you Sunday,
Pastor Axel Kaegler
