Coffee Hour
Each week after worship, St. John’s has a coffee hour to give members and guests a chance to socialize with eachother. This is a great opportunity to catch up and see how everyone is doing or even make new friends! Volunteers are needed to bake and serve each week for coffee hour to be a success! If you can help, please sign up on the bulletin board by the kitchen. |

Nominations for the Church Council
With friends moving away, and discerning new stages of discipleship - our congregational council is experiencing a time of transition. In April, we are anticipating being down to 7 members and the Pastor, when typically we are expected to have 12 and the Pastor. According to the Constitution, the Council is entrusted to elect new council members until the next Council Election is held at the Fall meeting. So we need your help. We don’t want anyone to accept a nomination or election for this position without knowing what it entails.
Being a member of the Council means participating in the formal leadership of this congregation. That entails a few practical commitments. There are monthly meetings at a mutually agreed upon time (and sometimes more). These meetings typically last between one and two hours. Our meetings have both technical components (motions to pay the bills, plans for property projects), and spiritual components (discerning the next direction of the Church, grounding our ministry in Jesus’ Gospel). Being a member of Council also means relating to the committees of the Church. It also means electing members of the congregations’ executive council - the President, the Vice President, the Treasurer, and the Council Secretary.
During the Pandemic, it has also meant calling members of the congregation to listen to and pray with them, to keep them informed about how the Church is responding to the pandemic, and to look for ways to help (be it food, financial assistance, contact with the pastor for prayer or the sacraments, or something else). It has meant listening to the science, the numbers of COVID-19 in our area, the recommendations of the Bishop, and the wisdom of other pertinent experts in considering how we do public ministry.
Being a member of the Council also involves participating in the spiritual leadership of the congregation. Together we want to discern the most faithful path forward in our congregational ministries. We talk about what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ at St. John’s, and how that should be reflected in the congregation’s ministry together in this place. We ask good questions and discern a common vision together on what God is inviting us to next. Council members are expected to bring a spirit of gratitude and faithfulness towards God to the table - so that our congregation’s vision stays centered on God. You can find all of this and more in your copy of the St. John’s Constitution - Chapter 12.
Please take some time to prayerfully ask who you’d like to nominate for this role, and send us a nomination to follow up on and bring forward to the Council.
